Many of these the recipes began as ordinary desserts, intended for humans. But with some tweaking of the ingredients and methods, they are now more suitable to dogs’ special dietary requirements and preferences.

I’ve been baking for dogs as long as I’ve had dogs in my life, and so I’ve had time to perfect the recipes you’ll find in this book. Although many of the recipes began as ordinary desserts, intended for humans, I’ve tweaked the ingredients and methods to make them more suitable to dogs’ special dietary requirements and preferences.

Feel free to make your own adjustments, based on your personal preferences and what’s in your own pantry. Try substituting a little whole-wheat flour for white, for example, if that’s what you prefer. But remember to always choose unbleached white all-purpose flour, which is better for dog and human health.

Don’t forget to taste-test the results. The beauty of baking with wholesome human-grade ingredients is that you can eat these treats, too. Yum!
